Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am so fortunate to be the principal of such an amazing school!  It is an absolute honor and pleasure to be the principal of Silver Wing Elementary School, one of Amerca's Best Urban Schools.  I want to assure you that I am dedicated to leading a school that is committed to children and has the best interest of children at its core. We continue our support for students and to fostering a safe school environment through our core principles: to be respectful, reponsible, safe and kind.

Our Mission

The Silver Wing Elementary School community is committed to creating a challenging and nurturing environment where all stakeholders are valued and respected. We embrace our diversity; it is one of our greatest strengths. Through the cooperative efforts of the Silver Wing community students become high achieving, innovative critical thinkers, who are literate, emotionally secure and socially responsible citizens. We take pride in developing each child's full potential.

We are a community of learners. Learning is seen as a lifelong process that is meaningful and relevant to our changing world. The Silver Wing Elementary School community is dedicated to ensuring a love of learning that challenges the status quo and embraces a technological world. The Silver Wing Elementary School community envisions generations of children instilled with the academic skills to be successful not only in their educational careers, but in all facets of their lives.

Visitor Management
Our school district has implemented a new Visitor Management system. Volunteers who want to gain access to school sites during school hours will be asked to present a valid CA driver's license or acceptable ID card. Please call the school office if you have any questions about the Visitor Management system.

The District's notification system School Messenger sends messages via email and automated telephone calls regarding events, school closings, safety alerts, and more. In addition, you can also subscribe to receive SMS alerts (text messages). To opt-in to the service, text a “Y" or "Yes” to 67587. • You were successful if you receive the following SMS response: “You are registered to receive aprox. 3 msgs/mo. Txt STOP to quit, HELP for help.” • You can unsubscribe at any time. Text the word, stop, to 67587. • NOTE: Although the District does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Arts Revival is Boosted by New Funding Formula
CVESD worked collaboratively with arts organizations in development of the District’s Visual and Performing Arts strategic plan. The strategic plan positioned the District well for significant changes in public education: California’s new funding formula for schools, and new state standards. The Board of Education was primed for a critical funding decision in 2014-15, when it announced its commitment to hire full-time VAPA instructors and provide arts instruction during the school day for all students. CVESD made an unprecedented $15 million investment in arts instruction, spread over three years. This also provided classroom teachers with release time for collaboration.
